Did Pelosi reject 10,000 National Guard troops?
WHEN & WHERE WAS IT SAID?
When: Jan 20, 2025
Where: Remarks in Emancipation Hall, U.S. Capitol
Original context / reporting ↗THE CLAIM (BRACE YOURSELF)
Nancy Pelosi rejected 10,000 National Guard troops before January 6
WHAT HE SAID (WORD FOR WORD, SADLY)
He said Nancy Pelosi had "turned down the offer of 10,000 soldiers" before Jan. 6.
WHEN AND WHERE (THE RECEIPTS HAVE A CALENDAR)
Remarks in the Capitol's Emancipation Hall on Jan. 20, 2025, fact-checked by the AP.
WHAT THE RECORD SHOWS (BRING SNACKS)
- Trump issued no order or formal request for the Guard before or during the riot; its arrival was delayed for hours while the Pentagon deliberated.
- Acting defense secretary Christopher Miller told the House committee in 2022 there was no order from the president.
- The Capitol Police Board decides whether to call the Guard. Pelosi's then-spokesperson said she was never informed of such a request. The AP found no evidence she or Mitch McConnell told security officials not to call the Guard.
WHY THIS MATTERS
The person who could order troops was Trump. Pelosi never held that button.
THE FACTS (SORRY)
Pelosi did not control the Guard, and no presidential order for 10,000 troops was issued.
Finding: FalseBold. Wrong, but bold.
